Breaking Down Georgia’s Negligent Security Laws

In Georgia, property owners, including those who own apartment complexes, shopping centers, and other establishments, are legally obligated to maintain a safe environment for residents, visitors, and workers. This duty encompasses taking reasonable measures to protect individuals from foreseeable criminal activities. Negligent security arises when property owners fail to address known risks—such as broken locks, inadequate lighting, or malfunctioning gates—thereby compromising the safety of those on the premises.

When such negligence leads to harm, victims have the right to pursue legal action. This can include seeking compensation for medical expenses, lost income, and other damages resulting from the incident. Moreover, holding property owners accountable serves as a catalyst for implementing necessary safety improvements, ultimately fostering a more secure environment for all.

History of Crime at Shy Manor Terrace Apartments

The online reviews for the Shy Manor Terrace Apartments shows residents are aware of criminal activity on the property. One resident states, “Management allows gangs to congregate in parking lot and breeze ways.” Adding, “There have been numerous shooting incidents and break ins there.”

It’s Up to Victims to Demand Justice

When someone is harmed due to negligent security, the consequences can be life-altering: physical injuries, emotional trauma, and financial hardship from medical bills and lost income.

While law enforcement focuses on apprehending the perpetrators, they don’t address the property owner’s failure to maintain a safe environment. In Georgia, it’s up to the victims and their families to take legal action against property owners who neglected their duty to provide adequate security.

Filing a negligent security claim allows victims to seek compensation for their losses and compels property owners to implement necessary safety measures. This not only aids in the victim’s recovery but also helps prevent future incidents by promoting safer conditions for all.
